LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Evan Leonard scored a career-high 30 points, Tommy Rutherford added 14 and UC Irvine held off Long Beach State for a 75-68 win on Wednesday night.
Leonard made all six of his foul shots in the last 31 seconds to seal the win. He finished 10 of 11 at the line and was 9 for 12 from the field. Leonard tied it at 63 with a 3-pointer and Eyassu Worku’s layup with three minutes left put the Anteaters (10-14, 5-3 Big West) up for good. Worku finished with 11.
Gabe Levin scored 10 of his 19 points in a little more than two minutes to start the second half and Long Beach State led 41-35. Jordan Roberts’s jumper made it 48-41 before the Anteaters used an 11-4 run to tie it.
Deishuan Booker scored 12 and Edon Maxhuni had 11 for the 49ers (12-13, 6-3), who missed 12 free throws and saw their three-game win streak end.
