If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em?

According to a new ESPN report, LeBron James could be willing to meet with the Golden State Warriors for a meeting when he’s a free agent this summer — if the Warriors can clear the salary cap space for a max contract.

The possibility is far from guaranteed, but James is open to hear what they have to pitch.

Per ESPN:

Out of respect for the Warriors’ winning culture, James would listen if Golden State explored ways to clear the necessary cap space, sources said.

This offseason, James is expected to decline his $35.6 million player option and become an unrestricted free agent for the third time in his career, although re-signing with Cleveland is not out of the question.

The move, according to ESPN, would require the Warriors to shed salaries of players such as Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala — both crucial parts of the Warriors’ success. They would also need Kevin Durant to turn down a player option.

Would the Warriors be interested?

James is the best basketball player in the world, but ESPN reported “there’s no indication Golden State is evaluating such options to acquire the Cleveland Cavaliers star at this time.”

At this point, nothing should surprise anyone (see: Durant joining the Warriors).
