PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A state Retirement Board subcommittee is recommending that the full board reject the accidental disability pension request of a South Kingstown police officer who hasn’t worked since 2010.

The Providence Journal reports that the recommendation in the case of Damon Borrelli came in response to a judge’s ruling that overturned the Retirement Board’s earlier denial of his request for an accidental disability pension.

Borrelli, a veteran, says he was injured and suffers post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of an on-duty crash and confrontation with a drunken-driving suspect in March 2010. But the state retirement board ruled he doesn’t have a work-related disability.

Borrelli remains on injured-on-duty status and has received more than $550,000 in tax free salary, benefits and unused vacation time.

He currently works as a lawyer.
