After Odell Beckham Jr. showed up on their injury report Friday, the New York Giants ruled him out for Sunday’s game at the Washington Redskins in a surprise move.
Beckham has a bruised quadriceps, the team said, and he did not travel with the Giants to Washington Saturday.
Beckham had eight catches for 136 yards the last time the Giants and Redskins met. New York fell to 1-7 with a loss that day while Washington moved to 5-2 and tightened its control of the NFC East.
Since then, both teams’ fortunes have turned, as Washington has fallen to 6-6 while the Giants have won three of their last four to jump up to 4-8.
Despite the bumpy start to his season, during which he was not shy about criticizing Eli Manning or the offense’s play-calling, Beckham has been having a fine statistical year and has even thrown two touchdown passes on gadget plays. Sunday is the first game this year the Giants will be without their star receiver, though they still have Sterling Shepard and running back Saquon Barkley.
