University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh told ESPN he will not leave the Wolverines for an NFL coaching gig.
“I’m on record right here, right now: I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying at Michigan,” Harbaugh said. “We have big plans here, and there’s a lot we want to accomplish.”
The coach insinuated he thinks rumors are started about him seeking an NFL job to mess with his recruiting efforts.
“This is a choreographed message that comes up at this time every year before signing day,” Harbaugh said. “It’s people spreading messages to further their own personal agenda.”
Michigan was in line to make the College Football Playoff for the first time until they lost badly to Ohio State, 62-39. The Wolverines went 10-2 and will play Florida in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 29.
Harbaugh had found success in the NFL, with a .695 winning percentage and a Super Bowl appearance in four seasons coaching the 49ers. He was later forced out — he went on to say the split wasn’t “mutual” — and took the job at Michigan, his alma mater.
