The Dallas Cowboys are making a surprise push toward the playoffs, and they may have a trick up their sleeve to boot.
Coach Jason Garrett has tried to convince former tight end Jason Witten to come down from ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth and play for the Cowboys the rest of the season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
So far, Witten has “resisted” the courtship.
The Cowboys lead the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles by one game in the NFC East race entering Week 14.
They enter Sunday’s game against the Eagles on a four-game winning streak, thanks in large part to adding receiver Amari Cooper and reigniting running back Ezekiel Elliott. But at tight end, nobody has been able to step up and replace Witten, who retired at the end of last season.
Witten, 36, has had a bumpy first year as a color commentator, with a few gaffes and a heap of criticism from viewers.
