President Trump said Friday his legal team already has 87 pages written of a counter report in preparation for the final report from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
“It has been incorrectly reported that Rudy Giuliani and others will not be doing a counter to the Mueller Report. That is Fake News,” he tweeted. “Already 87 pages done, but obviously cannot complete until we see the final Witch Hunt Report.”
Mr. Trump is directly denouncing an article from The Atlantic that reported the White House had no strategy to respond to the special counsel.
The unnamed Trump administration sources told the outlet that plans were essentially futile since the president is unlikely to stick to them.
“It’s like, ’Jesus, take the wheel,’ ” one source was quoted saying, “but scarier.”
Rudolph W. Giuliani, one of the president’s lawyers, told The Atlantic that the team plans on fighting back, but they haven’t had much time to work on their counter report.
“Answering those questions was a nightmare,” Mr. Giuliani said, “It took him about three weeks to do what would normally take two days.”
Mr. Trump’s lawyer refuted the report himself and said the answers were difficult because the president is “interrupted so often” by his duties.
Some in the media are distorting my statement that answering the questions was a nightmare. That is because as President he was interrupted so often with critical and more important matters. It illustrates why Mueller should end this now and media should be fair.
