Rep. Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that members of the House will have the final say over whether the winner of an election fraught with allegations of voter fraud will be seated next year.
North Carolina election officials have declined to certify the count in the state’s 9th Congressional District after the tally showed Republican Mark Harris defeating Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes.
An investigation is underway into claims that a man working for Mr. Harris abused absentee ballots.
Officials are set to weigh in on what happens next on Dec. 21.
“The House still retains the right to decide who is seated,” Mrs. Pelosi told reporters Thursday. “That is one of the powers of the House of Representatives. It controls who can be seated in the Congress.”
“Any member-elect can object to the seating, the swearing in, of another member-elect and we will see how that goes,” she said.

Election officials could certify the election, calling for a new election within 75 days or start the election from scratch, Mrs. Pelosi said.
