Fox News host Laura Ingraham compared Confederate monument protesters to the Islamic State, or ISIS, during her show Tuesday night.

Ms. Ingraham argued that the protesters “hate the past” and by working to ban statues of controversial figures, they are trying to “eradicate” it.

“This recalls the kind of destructive mindset of, let’s say, ISIS,” she said. “Think about ISIS, what they did. They pillaged, and they wiped away irreplaceable historical and religious monuments from Palmyra, remember in Syria, simply because they could. It was offensive to them.”

Ms. Ingraham said the monuments should be left for future generations to debate the merits of history.

Her comments came after several hundred people gathered at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to march in protest of potential plans to move a Confederate statue dubbed “Silent Sam” into the college’s new building.

Back in 2015, ISIS militants ravaged several historical archeological sites, including the ancient ruins Palmyra that could be traced back thousands of years, in their attempt to build out their brutal caliphate.
