A Houston-area woman who was wounded in a shooting that killed her 7-year-old daughter says the gunman fired a series of shots while driving alongside the woman’s car and then continued to fire as he pulled in front of the car.
Thirty-year-old LaPorsha Washington told KTRK-TV from her hospital bed Monday that the man driving a red pickup sped up after firing into her car, only to pull in front and slow down before firing again.
Washington was shot in the arm and her daughter, Jazmine Barnes, was killed in the shooting Sunday morning. Another daughter, 6, was injured by shattered glass.
A distraught Washington said, “He intentionally killed my child for no reason.”
Authorities say it’s not known why the man opened fire.
They released an image of the suspect’s pickup Monday in an effort to find the gunman.

Investigators say they have an image from surveillance video of a pickup whose driver fired several shots into a car carrying a family, killing a 7-year-old girl and wounding the child’s mother.
Harris County sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Sandoval told reporters Monday that the image of the red, four-door pickup was captured shortly before the shooting occurred Sunday morning.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez declined to speculate on what prompted the driver of the pickup to pull alongside and fire into the car carrying Jazmine Barnes, three of her sisters and her mother.
Jazmine died at the scene, her mother suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and her 6-year-old sister was injured by shattered glass. The mother, 30-year-old LaPorsha Washington, remained in a hospital Monday.
Gonzalez described the shooting as “totally unprovoked.”

Authorities are asking Houston-area residents to review video surveillance for any images of a pickup whose driver they say fired into a car carrying a family, killing a 7-year-old girl and wounding the child’s mother.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Monday asked for video that may help them track a red pickup that pulled alongside a car Sunday carrying Jazmine Barnes as it was leaving a Walmart parking lot.
Investigators say the driver of the pickup, described as a man in his 40s, fired into the car, striking Jazmine and wounding her mother, 30-year-old LaPorsha Washington.
Authorities say a motive for the shooting is not clear. They were expected to release additional information later Monday.
Three other juveniles were in the car at the time.
