GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The Campbell County school district will try a new security system that allows students, teachers or visitors to activate an alarm that immediately alerts law-enforcement officers.
The Gillette News-Record reported Sunday the BluePoint Alert system will be installed at the district’s four secondary schools after the holiday break.
Teachers and staff can activate the alert through lanyards, and students and visitors can use switches similar to fire alarms. Officers would be able to pinpoint the location of the alarm within the building.
The system also uses surveillance camera footage.
After the trial period, officials will decide whether to use it in other schools.
