Sully, George H.W. Bush’s service dog, will accompany the late former president’s casket to D.C.
The dog, named after heroic former airline pilot Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III, will be aboard the flight as the casket transported to the U.S. Capitol, where Mr. Bush will lie in state, CNN reported Monday.
Mr. Bush, who was diagnosed with a form of Parkinson’s disease, received Sully in June from America’s VetDogs. The yellow Labrador helped the former president around the house.
Bush spokesman Jim McGrath shared a touching photo of the loyal dog standing guard by Mr. Bush’s Sunday night.

Sully will continue on to another home, the Water Reed National Military Medical Center, America’s VetDogs announced.
Two of Mr. Bush’s sons — former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — shared the photo with their own messages.
“Sully has the watch,” Jeb Bush posted to Twitter.
“As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we’re comforted to know he’ll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41,” George W. Bush wrote on Instagram.
Mr. Bush died Friday night, just a few months after his wife Barbara’s death in April.
