AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Republican Gov. Paul LePage is using his last radio address to repeat his contention that Maine lawmakers must be fiscally responsible when it comes to expanding Medicaid. And he vowed, once again, to return from his home in Florida if there are any “financial shenanigans.”

LePage said his administration brought state finances “back from a sea of red ink and into the black.” He also says “MaineCare is now on sustainable financial footing.”

He said lawmakers should consider taxing hospitals to cover the cost of the Medicaid expansion. He said hospitals stand to benefit by at least $100 million from the voter-approved expansion.

LePage ended his address by wishing the new administration success while vowing to return “if they start up the financial shenanigans that we saw in previous administrations.”
