NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says $3 million in federal funding has been awarded to make freight rail improvements at a major Rhode Island business park.
The Rhode Island Democrat says the money will help the Quonset Development Corporation enhance the movement of freight within the Quonset Business Park and provide easier access to the northeast corridor.
The corporation is a quasi-state agency responsible for developing and managing the North Kingstown, Rhode Island business park.
Reed says the U.S. Department of Transportation funding was awarded to the Quonset Freight Rail Enhancements and Expansion project. He says the Port of Davisville, at the park, is the state’s largest port and a major gateway to markets throughout the region, with rail car volume tripling since 2007.
The park currently has over 200 companies.
