LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo says Las Vegas police are planning an “all hands on deck approach” to New Year’s Eve security.

Lombardo said at a news conference Thursday that he plans to have teams of officers inside casino-resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and snipers watching overhead.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is also offering help with federal agents, dogs, mobile radios and more. Lombardo says uniformed and plainclothes officers will be among the crowd estimated to top 300,000 celebrating on the Strip and the downtown Freemont district.

Glass bottles and other glass items will be banned from those areas starting at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and a curfew will be imposed for minors starting at 6 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Backpacks, ice chests and strollers will also not be allowed on the Strip.
