SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane police say a person who was walking on the railroad tracks was struck and killed by a train.
Police say a Union Pacific train crew contacted police at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to report they might have struck a pedestrian on the tracks that parallel Sunset Highway.
Police found an adult man at the site and transported him to the hospital where he died.
The Spokane Major Crimes Unit was at the scene, along with officials from BNSF and Union Pacific railroad.
The train is owned by Union Pacific, but BNSF owns the track.
It appears the man was not authorized to be on the tracks. His identity was not released.
