BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is confident there will be a way to extend the life of the state’s Medicaid expansion program during the 2019 legislative session.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that Bullock, following the failure of a ballot initiative that would have made the program permanent and funded it through a tobacco tax, proposed a budget that raises revenues to help extend it beyond a June sunset date.
Bullock, a Democrat, said Thursday while visiting the Chronicle’s editorial board that he believes a lot of Republicans who opposed the program when the Legislature passed it in 2015 have come around.
Bullock talked about his top priorities, including Medicaid, a $30 million public preschool proposal and nearly $300 million in infrastructure projects.
