JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi lawmakers say the capital city needs to do a better job of marketing in order to get more funding.
The Clarion Ledger reported that Jackson area lawmakers conducted a hearing this week to review a report by a watchdog group about the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The report by the Joint Legislative Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review comes after a memo earlier this year that the Jackson Rhythm and Blues Festival lost more than #2 million between 2013 and 2016. This year’s event was canceled because of the report.
Jackson Sen. John Horhn said the city has assets many other communities do not have and the city is not taking proper advantage of those.
Horhn said he expects to see improvements in the bureau’s strategic plan.
