BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Some employees of a school system in Alabama will receive a one-time bonus in the new year.
Al.com reports some Birmingham City Schools employees will receive a one-time bonus of $500. The Birmingham Board of Education approved the supplemental pay during a special-called board meeting Tuesday.
Teachers and support personnel, both certified and classified employees who are in active status as of Jan. 1 and whose salary does not exceed $83,000 will receive the bonus. The school system says the pay will be distributed in the new year.
Birmingham City Schools said in a statement that the supplemental pay comes as a gesture of gratitude from Birmingham Board of Education members and Superintendent Lisa Herring who thank employees for positively impacting the lives of children on a daily basis.
