SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Republican Gov. Phil Scott has appointed a former hospital executive to evaluate, monitor and help Springfield Hospital as it deals with financial troubles, that the governor calls “a very serious situation.”
Scott said in a statement Wednesday that Tom Huebner, the former chief executive officer of the Rutland Regional Medical Center, will work with Springfield officials as they determine what went wrong and how to fix it.
Last week the CEO of Springfield Medical Care Systems, a nonprofit health care system that includes Springfield Hospital, resigned, following months of financial issues and complaints from employees.
Scott says Huebner will represent the governor’s office and work with the hospital board and administration “to ensure there is a plan in place to restore the hospital’s fiscal stability.”
