Former Baltimore Ravens star running back Ray Rice sees similarities between Kareem Hunt’s domestic violence situation and his own from 2014, and he wants to help the player the Kansas City Chiefs released Friday, he told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
“Peer-to-peer, I would definitely try to help him figure out, ’How can we start dealing with the underlying problems in your life?’” Rice said. “Because he has a long life to live, this will be a defining moment, but it shouldn’t be the moment that defines you. For me, I just see you have a long life to live and that doesn’t mean just playing football — you need to just live one day at a time.”
Rice punched and knocked out his fiancee in an elevator in Atlantic City in 2014, and TMZ obtained and published video of the incident. Similarly, this week TMZ leaked video of Hunt assaulting a woman in a hotel in February.
“You look back at it and obviously you see some similarities between what happened in my situation,” Rice said, but added, “I’m never going to call myself an expert.”
Rice never played in the NFL again after his incident, though he’s worked with groups like the Childhood Domestic Violence Association and spoken at the NFL Players Associations’ “Rookie Premiere.”
Hunt was placed on the Commissioner Exempt list Friday before the Chiefs decided to cut ties with the second-year running back.
