SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City has identified 19 priests and others affiliated with the church found to have credible allegations against them of sexual abuse involving minors.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the list of names released Monday outlines the allegations, with the oldest accusations dating back to the 1950s.
A number of the allegations surfaced decades after the abuse occurred. The list shows that eight of the men have since died and one is incarcerated.
The diocese says a credible allegation is “not a final determination of guilt, but is grounds for further exploration.”
Bishop Oscar Solis says in a statement the list is “one step toward providing the transparency that will help repair at least some of the wounds left by the wrongful actions of priests.”
