BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Air National Guard ’s 159th Fighter Wing will hold a ceremony Wednesday afternoon for about 100 airmen who will be deployed next year.
A National Guard news release Tuesday said Gov. John Bel Edwards will be the keynote speaker as Air National Guard units from around the state prepare to leave for various locations around the world.
Most will leave in the first months of 2019 to support the fight against the Islamic State group and operations to strengthen allies in the Middle East.
The National Guard says family members, friends and community supporters are welcome to the free public event at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse (Bel CHAYS).
The ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m.
