HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - Drew McDonald had 21 points and 10 rebounds and made four free throws in the final minute to help Northern Kentucky hold off Miami (Ohio) 72-66 on Sunday.
McDonald’s pair of free throws with 41 seconds left gave the Norse (9-3) a 68-64 lead and McDonald grabbed the rebound when Miami’s Nike Sibande missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 33 seconds to go. Tyler Sharpe pushed the lead to 70-64 with two foul shots with 24 seconds left and McDonald capped the scoring with two more at the foul line with 12 seconds left.
Miami led for most of the first half and went into the break with a 34-33 lead. Northern Kentucky took control with the first five points of the second half and never trailed again except when the RedHawks briefly led at 51-50.
Zaynah Robinson added 19 points, Sharpe scored 15 and Dantez Walton had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Norse.
Sibande scored 13, Dalonte Brown added 12 and Abdoulaye Harouna 10 for the RedHawks (6-5).
