BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - The New England Ballet has donated 300 tickets to its weekend performances of the Nutcracker so foster families from the Bridgeport region can enjoy the holiday classic.

The tickets have been given to the Connecticut Department of Children and Families to distribute for performances on Saturday and Sunday at the Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport.

In thanking the ballet company, DCF Commissioner Joette Katz says the donation is the perfect embodiment of community involvement in supporting children in vulnerable circumstances. She says foster families “deserve our strong expression of appreciation for what they do for wonderful children all year round.”

DCF’s Bridgeport staff and employees at the Boys and Girls Village in Milford have been distributing the tickets in advance of the weekend performances.
