AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Republican Gov. Paul LePage is urging all Mainers and “especially public figures” to follow the example set by former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara.
LePage used his weekly address to praise the nation’s 41st president as a New England native “who truly dedicated his life to his family and to his country.”
He noted that Bush’s heart stayed in Kennebunkport. And he said Bush and the former first lady put the town on the map by welcoming world leaders.
Bush died last month at 94. His wife died in April at 92.
LePage said that through their love of family and public service George and Barbara Bush were “the best role models we can have.”
