BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s largest teachers’ union is suing a Williston company that had administered health benefits to Burlington and other school districts, accusing it of failing to process medical claims and reimburse employees.

The Vermont-National Education Association alleges that Future Planning Associates Inc. breached contracts and acted fraudulently, when it advertised its services and attempted to administer health benefits for about 80 percent of Vermont’s school employees.

The Burlington Education Association is the first plaintiff in the lawsuit filed on Thursday.

The company says it did nothing wrong. It withdrew from its contracts with the school districts in April.

The lawsuit seeks punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.
