PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - Police in Virginia say a woman who was arrested on an outstanding warrant has died in custody.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Virginia State Police identified the woman as 28-year-old Carmeita Jane Vangilder of Yorktown on Friday.

A Portsmouth police news release says the woman was arrested Thursday night. Police say she was taken to police headquarters, where she experienced a medical emergency. Medics responded and treated her, but she died.

The newspaper says no further details were given about the medical emergency.
