CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Union Pacific Railroad Company officials have no definitive timeline for clearing the remaining wreckage from a 56-train-car derailment west of Cheyenne that claimed the lives of two railroad employees.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the Oct. 4 crash is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, which says it could take more than a year to complete the investigation.
No new updates have been released, and investigators are in the fact-gathering stages, reviewing maintenance records, operations history and weather.
Although crews have cleared the tracks to allow train traffic to flow through the area, officials can’t say when they expect to have the remaining few train cars and additional debris cleared.
Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says crews are working as fast as they can.
Locomotives, a few rail cars and debris remain at the crash site.
