President Trump said Thursday he has narrowed his search to five finalists for White House chief of staff.

“We are interviewing people now for chief of staff,” Mr. Trump said during a meeting with governors-elect at the White House.

He said the candidates who are vying to replace the departing John F. Kelly are “really good ones” and “terrific people.”

Among those reportedly being considered is David Bossie, former deputy campaign manager for Mr. Trump in 2016, whom the president calls a friend.

“I want somebody that’s strong, but I want somebody that thinks like I do,” Mr. Trump told Fox News. “It’s my vision, after all.”

Mr. Trump told Rep. Mark Meadows, North Carolina Republican and chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, that he was out of the running for the job Wednesday. He said Mr. Meadows is more valuable to the White House by staying in Congress.
