HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s governor-elect is not among the country’s new governors who met with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C.
A spokeswoman says Democrat Ned Lamont did not attend Thursday’s White House meeting, but he plans to meet with the Republican president in February at the National Governors Association meeting.
Lamont’s transition spokeswoman, Lacey Rose, says Lamont has “roughly eight weeks” to start up a new administration that’s “ready to govern Day One.”
Rose says Lamont is in “close touch” with Connecticut’s congressional delegation and the governor’s Washington, D.C., office director “to make sure Connecticut has a seat at the table on issues of importance in the state.”
Lamont has been a sharp critic of Trump, grading his job performance an “F’’ during debates and promising to protect Connecticut from his policies.
