Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, who went to prison for lying to the FBI in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, will be the focus of a new documentary series about his relationship with his wife, Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos, according to a report Tuesday.
The couple will star in a documentary series produced by FGW Productions, the Washington Post reported. The company’s past credits include A&E’s 2017 six-part docuseries “Who Killed Tupac?” and the 2016 PBS documentary “Eyes on the Prize: Then and Now.”
Mr. Papadopoulos and his wife will not receive payment for the series, but will be compensated for pictures and documents they provide, the article said. Filming began last month, according to the Post.
The former Trump campaign aide told the Post that he and his wife hope the docuseries will portray “a true image of ourselves to be presented for the first time since I was embroiled in the Russia investigation.”
Executive producer Stephanie Frederic described the story as a “young couple who fall in love and days later find themselves in the middle of this international scandal.”
“I have friends who are angry at me for doing this series,” she told the Post. “I’m not doing this for politics. A good story is a good story. I think they’re a good story.”
A distributor has not been signed, Ms. Frederic told the Post.
Mr. Papadopoulos pleaded guilty in October 2017 of lying to FBI agents investigating his contacts with individuals who had ties to Russia. He was attempting to broker a meeting between the individuals and Trump campaign officials.
He was released from prison last week after serving two weeks in a Wisconsin prison.
