Maryland’s really neither a football school nor a basketball school, but a soccer school.

The Terrapins won the NCAA Division I men’s soccer national championship Sunday with a 1-0 win over Akron in Santa Barbara, California.

Amar Sejdic scored the lone goal for Maryland, a 57th minute penalty kick. Terrapins goalie Dayne St. Clair made two saves in the shutout.

Two days earlier, in the semifinals of the College Cup, Maryland beat Big Ten opponent Indiana 2-0.

It’s the program’s fourth national title in men’s soccer and third under coach Sasho Cirovski.
