MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - A popular Upper Peninsula ski hill is making snow after a delayed start apparently due to sabotage.

Officials at Marquette Mountain in Marquette say someone broke into a pump house and damaged valves and pipes. Water is used to make snow when the temperature is right.

General Manager Frank Malette tells The Mining Journal that he’s convinced that someone familiar with the system was involved in the vandalism about three weeks ago. He says, “this was something that was done maliciously to cause us harm - and it did.”

Police are investigating. Marquette Mountain’s website says it plans to open on Dec. 8.
