A day after his legal team turned down special counsel Robert Mueller’s latest request for an interview, President Trump blasted the probe again as an illegal partisan scam.

“This is an illegally brought Rigged Witch Hunt run by people who are totally corrupt and/or conflicted,” Mr. Trump tweeted Thursday. “It was started and paid for by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats. Phony Dossier, FISA disgrace and so many lying and dishonest people already fired. 17 Angry Dems? Stay tuned!”

The president’s legal team responded Wednesday in writing to Mr. Mueller’s latest terms for an interview of Mr. Trump. While they still haven’t ruled out a possible interview, the prospects are increasingly unlikely.

Jay Sekulow, an attorney for Mr. Trump, said Wednesday night that he won’t allow the president to “walk into a perjury trap.” Mr. Mueller wants to ask about the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey, but Mr. Trump’s lawyers argue that prosecutors can’t ask Mr. Trump about actions taken while in office.

“If you lined up 100 lawyers, you’d have 100 lawyers say: ’Don’t sit down for an interview,’ ” Mr. Sekulow told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.

“This is an investigation that from its outset has been corrupt, there’s no question about that.”
