BREWSTER, Mass. (AP) - Powerful thunderstorms have caused thousands of power outages and at least two house fires on Cape Cod.

Eversource officials say up to 3,700 homes and businesses in the region lost electricity Thursday morning as trees and utility lines came down. About 700 outages remained late in the afternoon.

Fire officials in Brewster told The Cape Cod Times that lightning strikes caused fires at two homes in town. Authorities said two firefighters were injured at one of the blazes - one with a cut to a hand and the other with dehydration and heat exhaustion. They’re expected to be OK.

Fire also damaged a home under construction in Orleans. No word yet on the cause.

Officials say the storms also caused flooding that made some streets impassable.
