From the man who once told everyone to “R-E-L-A-X,” Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has some advice for NFL when it comes to dealing with President Trump: I-G-N-O-R-E.
Rodgers told the NFL Network’s Michael Silver on Monday that players and owners should ignore Trump’s criticisms of the league, specifically his attitude toward players kneeling during the national anthem.
“The more that we give credence to stuff like that, the more it’s gonna live on,” Rodgers said. “I think if we can learn to ignore or not respond to stuff like that — if we can — it takes away the power of statements like that.”
Trump has repeatedly called for NFL players to be suspended if they kneel during the national anthem. Last September, more than 200 players protested in wake of the president saying players deserved to be fired for kneeling and to “get that [S.O.B.] off the field.”
Rodgers has never protested during the anthem.
The 34-year-old said LeBron James’ decision to not respond to the president was “absolutely beautiful” after Trump recently called the NBA star dumb.
“At a time where [James is] putting on display his school, which is changing lives, there’s no need,” he said. “Because you’re just giving attention to that (tweet); that’s what they want. So just don’t respond.”
