NASCAR CEO Brian France was arrested Sunday for driving while intoxicated and a criminal possession of a controlled substance in Sag Harbor, New York.
France, 56, has been the CEO of NASCAR since 2003. According to the Sag Harbor Village Police, France was pulled over at 7:30 p.m. after he failed to stop at a stop sign. Police determined he was driving while intoxicated and then searched the car, finding he was in possession of oxycodone pills.
France was held overnight and released Monday morning, following his arraignment.
“We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are in the process of gathering information,” NASCAR told multiple outlets. “We take this as a serious matter and will issue a statement after we have all of the facts.”
