PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A new analysis of federal data is giving four Maine nursing homes the lowest possible rank for their staffing levels.
Maine Public reports that Kaiser Health News’s analysis finds the rest of Maine’s nearly 100 nursing homes scored well for staffing. But it found ratios from 14 to 32 residents-per-nurse at nursing homes in Belfast, Auburn, Fryeburg and Bridgton.
The Bridgton nursing home’s administrator disputes the data and says Maine’s minimum staffing ratios are around 15 residents per nurse.
The Maine Health Care Association says the state is tops in New England and is among the nation’s highest for nursing staff levels.
The Maine Council on Aging says there’s a long waitlist for care and some nursing homes take beds offline to meet staffing requirements.
