Bobby Beathard, who won two Super Bowls as general manager of the Washington Redskins in the 1980s, was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio Saturday night as part of the Class of 2018.
Beathard was inducted under the “contributor” designation.
The Redskins won Super Bowls XVII and XXII and also competed in Super Bowl XVIII under Beathard’s tenure, during the golden age of the franchise with coach Joe Gibbs, running back John Riggins, wide receiver Art Monk and the “Hogs” offensive line.
Beathard and his staff were responsible for drafting Monk, guard Russ Grimm and cornerback Darrell Green, all Hall of Fame players, as well as Super Bowl-winning quarterback Mark Rypien. He hired Gibbs and signed Doug Williams, who would also go on to win a Super Bowl, from the United States Football League.
Gibbs introduced Beathard, 81, at the enshrinement ceremony in Canton. Unlike most of his peers, Beathard pre-recorded his speech.
Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Brian Dawkins, Robert Brazile and Jerry Kramer were also inducted in the Class of 2018.
