JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Supreme Court is going to review the case of a man who was sentenced at 15 to life without parole.

Local media report the court agreed Thursday to review the sentence of Brett Jones.

Jones was charged with stabbing his 68-year-old grandfather and found guilty of murder in 2005. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

But a later U.S. Supreme Court ruling said life without parole for juveniles was cruel and unusual. The Mississippi Supreme Court vacated his sentence and ordered a resentencing during which he was given the same sentence.

The Thursday Supreme Court decision did not reverse Jones’ sentence but said the justices will review it to see if he’s eligible for parole. No date for the discussion has been set.
