STANDISH, Maine (AP) - A Maine college is getting support from the National Science Foundation to try to encourage more students in the state to go into science education.
The foundation is giving Saint Joseph’s College in Standish about $103,000 to support a scholarship program that helps students pursue careers as science teachers. The scholarship also helps to link graduates with high-need school districts in the state.
The money is coming from the foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program Capacity Building project. The project directs recipients of grants to create plans to recruit students form high-need schools who are interested in becoming educators.
