GROTON, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s Department of Transportation is temporarily closing pedestrian access to a sidewalk along I-95 Gold Star Bridge that spans the Thames River.

The walkway, which runs from Groton to New London, will be closed for roughly 10 weeks, beginning Aug. 13.

Signs will be posted at the three entrances to the sidewalk, warning of the closure. Fences and barricades will also be installed to prevent access.

DOT officials say repair work involves removing significant portions of the sidewalk slabs, as well as existing pedestrian safety fencing. It’s all part of a $26 million overhaul of the bridge, scheduled to be completed Nov. 30.

DOT is working with the Southeast Area Transit District to provide a dedicated shuttle bus with stops at the one New London entrance and two Groton entrances.
