BRASELTON, Ga. (AP) - A Mayfield Dairy plant in a Georgia town is set to close and lay off its more than 100 employees.
News outlets report Mayfield Dairy announced the layoffs and closure to Braselton Mayor Bill Orr in a July letter. The letter doesn’t say why the plant is closing.
It says layoffs will start Sept. 16 and continue through Nov. 30. The plant’s visitor center closes Friday. The letter says the company, owned by Dean Foods, provided the closure and termination notice so the town can assist workers with finding new employment.
News outlets report plant officials referred requests for comment to Dean Foods, which couldn’t be reached. Braselton is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta.
