BANGOR, Maine (AP) - The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has issued an emergency rule limiting the methods hunters use to trap bears in the state.
The department says the rule adopted Aug. 29 targets techniques that could accidentally trap the federally threatened Canada Lynx.
The department says foot snares that are designed to trap a bear when it reaches in to grab bait are not allowed.
The rule will be in place for 90 days. The department says it will look into a more permanent rule before the 2019 bear-trapping season.
More information about the rule is available online at the department’s website .
