LAS VEGAS (AP) - Unionized workers and two casino-hotels in Las Vegas have reached tentative labor agreements that include wage increases and stronger language against sexual harassment in the workplace.
The Culinary Union says workers at the SLS and the Downtown Grand will soon vote to ratify the five-year contracts.
The contracts of 50,000 unionized workers, including housekeepers, bellmen and bartenders, expired earlier this year. Workers in May voted to authorize a strike over the lack of progress on contract negotiations.
The union and casino operators have since reached agreements covering more than two dozen properties. About 2,400 workers remain without contracts.
The union stepped up its efforts to secure contracts for its members last month, when it began picketing outside some casino-hotels and a casino-restaurant.
