TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy is expanding the time flags will be flown at half-staff to honor Sen. John McCain.

Murphy on Monday ordered that U.S. and New Jersey flags on state buildings be flown at half-staff from Tuesday until Sunday.

Murphy earlier ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, the Arizona Republican lawmaker’s 82nd birthday.

McCain died Saturday after a 13-month fight with brain cancer.

Murphy’s order comes after President Donald Trump says he respects the senator’s “service to our country” and has signed a proclamation to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff until his burial.

The flag atop the White House was raised Monday and then lowered again amid criticism.

McCain was a frequent critic of President Donald Trump. Trump questioned the decorated Navy pilot’s Vietnam heroism.
