It’s go time for the Washington Redskins. Weeks away from the regular season, Friday’s game against the Denver Broncos will be the Redskins’ best chance to fine-tune things before taking on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden did not reveal how long the starters will play, but they are expected to see significant playing time.
“I just want to see [the starters] come out and play with some good energy, run to the ball on defense and be smart,” Gruden said. “I’d like to not have any pre-snap penalties. That’s a big thing. Come out with some energy and play in front of our home crowd for however long that is. I’ll determine that.”
Here’s what you need to know:
Opponent: Denver Broncos (0-2 preseason)
Where: FedEx Field, Landover, Maryland
When: Friday, Aug. 24, 7:30 p.m.
Television: NBC Sports Washington, WRC
Radio: The Team 980
What to watch for: Adrian Peterson will make his debut after signing with the Redskins earlier this week. … Alex Smith will look further to command the Redskins offense, following his one-series drive last week against the Jets. … Washington will be thin at wide receiver with Maurice Harris (concussion), Brian Quick (thigh) and Cam Sims (thigh) out with injuries, but that should open the door for Trey Quinn and others to receive more playing time.
