ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A grand jury has found that a Kentucky deputy didn’t violate the law when he shot and injured a man during a February traffic stop.

The News-Enterprise reports the grand jury found Thursday that Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy Clennon Smith committed no criminal acts in the shooting of Mike Williams. Commonwealth’s Attorney Shane Young had asked the grand jury to consider possible charges of first-degree assault or first-degree wanton endangerment.

A Kentucky State Police trooper and Smith responded to a call regarding an erratic driver and Williams was shot at the end of the chase. Authorities later said the driver drove toward police. There is no video of the incident.

Williams is recovering. His attorney says Williams’ family is considering possible civil action.

Authorities say Smith will now face an administrative investigation.
