Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Thursday left tackle Trent Williams will make his preseason debut Friday against the Denver Broncos, while receivers Maurice Harris, Brian Quick and Cam Sims will be out.

Friday will be Williams first in-game action since shutting down his season last December. In 2017, the 30-year-old dealt with a torn tendon and bone spurs in his knee for most of the season. He underwent surgery on Dec. 29 and has worked his way back since then.

Williams has been limited in practice, but has increased his workload as training camp progressed.

Gruden said Williams will be “dressed up and ready to go.”

“Anytime you have a Pro Bowler like Trent, it makes your team better all the way around,” Gruden said. “It makes your quarterback more comfortable on his blindside. It makes your running game better. It makes the other offensive line better. It makes the receivers look better.

“It makes me look better too, so I love having him out there.”

Gruden did not reveal how long Williams will play.

Sims and Quick will be out after each suffered a thigh contusion last week against the Jets. Harris, meanwhile, is recovering from a concussion and an ankle injury.

Wideout Jamison Crowder (groin) will also be a game-time decision, potentially leaving the Redskins thin at wideout.

“It just gives some other guys some opportunities,” Gruden said. “So we’ll see what happens. Trey Quinn will get a bulk of the load. We’ve still got Paul (Richardson), he’s going to be out there starting. Josh (Doctson) will get some reps. We’ve still got enough receivers to get by.”

Tight end Jordan Reed, defensive lineman Stacy McGee and running backs Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine will also not play, having been ruled out on Wednesday.
